smelly shoes

I bought some shoe spray from clarks to stop shoes smelling but it isn't very cheap - what moneysaving ways are there to make shoes (interior) smell nicer ?0

I know this sounds crazy but i read somewhere that cat litter keeps shoes smelling clean.0

Having two pairs and wearing them alternatively so that the sweat (sorry to be gross) dries out completely in between wears. I use cheap anti-bac wipes on my summer ones, just wipe the insides out every time I use them before I put them away at night. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
Bicarb of soda sprinkled in the shoes and jigged about to cover the whole innersole and then left overnight before shaking out. Bit of a faff getting all the powder out - sure there is an easy way someone on here will know (maybe finish off with nozzle attachment of hoover?) Bicarb asborbs pongs and moisture. I've heard cat litter does the trick - also absorbs smells and wet but might be more messy to get out of shoe?
If innersole comes out I sometimes clean and air these. Guess these can be replaced?
I also regularly put trainers out in the garden for a few hours on a dry day to air them. Helps a bit even if it just removes the whiff from the house for a while :rotfl:
Actually we have several stinky pairs that need doing - will do next week when in the mood.

Why not try some bicarbonate of soda mixed with a couple of drops of essential oil, such as lavender, loosely wrapped in a piece of muslin or the like. The bicarb will absorb some of the smell and the oil will leave a slightly more pleasant smell behind.0
