Faulty Goods

My wife bought an electronic toy a few weeks ago at Argos for our daughters birthday. It doesn't work but she doesn't have a receipt (very unlike her). What is our position in relation to returning it??? Anybody any experience??

Regards

    Hi Stebiz,

Being a former Customer Liaision officer, this will be easy.

it all comes down to what you want, if you just want a replacement, then the person behind the till should be albe to do that (they can check the system to see when you bought the item by date and time - which is proof enuff of purchase), if you paid by credit card you can show your statement to get a replacement.

now if you want a refund its a different story, they will try and palm Gift Vouchers your way (after some evidance taht you bought the item is shown,i.e. them checking the system or CC statement). if you are looking for a like for like refund, then don't waste time talking to he sales staff only the manager can sort (if she or she is a nice person).

Haha @ The don't talk to sales staff, it totally depends on who you get, some that know what they are doing can be as helpfull as a stuck up manager can ;).

TBH Just having the box with the number on is enough to have a replacement, however for a refund without any proof of how you paid it should come back as Gift Vouchers, this is company policy and most managers will enforce this.

If you still have a picking ticket on the box, again that is PoP as its possible to trace the sale and how you paid from the TXN No on that, however its unlikely most sales staff will know how to do that.

The exact date and rough time should be enough aswell as Argos hold sales records going back 3 monthes. Again it depends on who happens to serve you.

Perhaps have a word with Customer Services sometimes they can be quite usefull with their advice, and may have a word with the store for you.

Obviously as a company we do employ some mongs, so dont be affraid to ask to speak to someone else. I have been in a Duty Manager situation and tbh if customers are nice about their problem i'm much more likely to help them than i am if they are ranting and raving.
