In the money.....I wish!

My DH has been trying to claim some work expenses for a couple of months now and every time he has tried to chase it up he has been asked to fax yet another claim form to the department, we can't remember the amount of times this has been now. Anyway at last he received some of them on Friday, then he recieved anotherbig payment Monday, more today and according to his pay statement another big chunk this friday. It all sounds ok so far but they will now have overpaid him a total of £5320. We've put it in our savings account to gather interest until they take it back (and stop ourselves from using to pay off some debt:rolleyes: ), when this will be goodness only knows and whether they will claim too much back we'll wait and see. We only wanted back what we were entitled too, why do they have to make things so complicated!

Ah well, at least it is now complicated with their money and not yours! I would tell him to email the relevant dept, then sit back and watch the interest grow - with any luck it will take them as long to ask for it back as it took them to pay in the 1st place!
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Just be careful about moving it to a savings account to gain interest - they are entitled to take it back without warning, most companies will give you a warning first but they don't have to when correcting an error. So make sure you don't end up being charged bank fees because of it...

I agree with Climbgirl, you may find that one (or more) month(s) they just don't pay him!

See if you can get a repayment plan agreed, to be deducted from his salary, then you can transfer the equivalent from the savings pot into the bills pot.

I don't think they can take it out of your bank account - I expect when they want it back you'll probably have to give them a cheque.

I had this happen to me, although it was over pay of wages. I had a right argument with the dept involved saying it's your mistake - if you put in there you take it out, etc and they were all sheepish and like we can't do that. They said I would have to send them a cheque.

Which I didn't but I had stopped working for the company involved at that point and it was only for about £120 - I said I would send a cheque and didn't and they never contacted me about it again. But I'm not recommending this as a course of action BTW

They certainly can, it's happened to me before when our salaries were all overpaid - they simply reversed the bank transaction for the overpaid amount a day or two later.

If you want to avoid getting stung with bounced payment fees etc, I'd be very cautious about moving it.
