Are you sure it's not some water in the oil which has frozen, happened to friends of ours during the week.

Time for this cold weather to clear off, I've had enough of it!

  • It happened to me during the week, partner had to take the kettle to the pipe and re-start at the button but it seemed to work, we must have water in the tank or condensation as oil wouldn't freeze.

I remember the last time we had really cold weather my mum was advised to keep the boiler on 24/7 at the lowest temperature setting to prevent the pipe and boiler from freezing.
  • Think I have jinxed myself. Now our tank is misfiring and won't fire up. Any tips. Have tried pushing the button etc. Its bucking freezing!

Not cold enough here yet for kerosene to freeze, water within the piping or the oil starting to gel will be more of a problem.

Whilst the oil wont freeze at these temperatures, the viscosity can change adequately to cause some people trouble. No point just trying to 'defrost' it unless you are confident, so disconnect the oil line and see if you get a flow....

Been having this problem recently myself.

My oil line is only about 4-6 inches below the garden, and either end is exposed (about 30cm at each end). I have exactly the same issues described above, where the viscosity is too thick to allow the kero to come through the injector properly. I also have to hit the button to get it firing (every morning at 6am )

I have no help for you this time, but I intend to dig mine out during the summer and ensure that it is well insulated. Might be worth considering doing the same?
