    Xmas Saver!
Yeah, let me go away to a foreign country that doesn't have the same medical care as the UK, and then let me test whether my travel insurance covers me whilst I am participating in a medical trial, and am very ill through either taking sugar tablets or a new concoction someones cooked up, yes please!

Thats if I can take a bottle of pills through customs these days....

Lawrie28, if you look at the FAQ you'll see that their travel insurance covers you.

I can understand why people are concerned, but since these concerns are all answered in the FAQ on the site I really don't get why you'd disparage a free holiday.

If they are a pharmaceutical company surely they have access to the bugs that cause the problems so why go abroad?

    That's OTT lawrie.
Of course there's a tiny chance something really nasty could happen as it could if you went on your own holiday,
Remember this is a preventative medicine so you are equally or less likely to get ill than if you went on your own holiday as normal and took no preventative measures (which to my knowledge most people don't).

Of course you can take medicines through customs. People do it ALL the time. every day.

    Stop scamemonering.
No connection with this company but posting for the benefit of balance.

My concerns would be getting a re-imbursement if the company failed.
This si not said with any knowledge of the particualr company in mind, but just in view of the general economic situation.
So I would only advise people to spend what they would normally spend on a holiday anyway, that way you can't really lose.

Becuase they want to test in the REAL environment of that country, with the other bugs, water, temperatures, unually high alchohol levels etc. that are associated with that location/being on holiday.
They very definitely WILL have done many tests on this drug already before it gets to an acceptable stage to be used in human testing.
There are very stringent rules about this.
You can't give things to humans without doing extensive testing first, but there is no replacement for the REAL environment, because the temperature, food, water, drinks, diet chosen and other bugs all affect someone's health.

If you don't want to do the offer then that's fine.
I don't particularly simple because it's not my choice of destination.
People should be free to point out issues, howeber to post mis-information (like you can't take medicine on holiday) is simply scaremongering and not of benefit to anyone.

Read about this in the paper - it seems to be a new probiotic that increases the number of 'good' bacteria in the gut so that the nasty ones can't invade - on the trials they've done so far it seems to be very effective
;) If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!

Have just come back from India and escaped being ill. Wasn't able to take up a friend's tip to have probiotics in advance as they all seem to be in yoghurt and I have a dairy intolerance.
