Tesco online shopping questions

Hiya
OK so I have put in my first online order with Tesco but my question is about substitutions. My friend said you will only get charged for the item you originally chose if they substitute it. Is this correct and do they only give you equal or better, not cheaper? Also, if an item is on offer say 2 for £1 and they substitute it, what do they charge then?
I had originally put Do Not Substitute by a lot of items and am now worried this will mean my order will fall below the £50 needed to use the £5 off ecoupon I got. How can I go back in and change my substitution preferences? I have amended my order to try and find the option but it doesn't appear to be there.
Thanks

Yes it's correct if they substitiute an item you pay for the item you ordered if the new item is more expensive. If they substitute with a cheaper item you pay the cheaper price. Usually though, they substitute with a more expensive item.
If an item you ordered was on an offer and it's substituted you'll miss out on the offer.
Either way you can ask the driver to take the items back and they refund you.
As for your coupon that will still be appiled if your order falls below £50 as long as your basket shows over £50 when you checkout. Technically you could order £50 worth of BOGOF items which will cost £25 and still get your £5 off.
You can't change any preferences after you've checked out, you can only change what's in your basket. If you're worried you can cancel the order, quickly go back and book your slot (which should be available as you've just cancelled) and start over again. When you come to the checkout page you can choose no substitutions.
Good luck. I've got an order booked for Monday but the weather here is bad and not going to get better by then so I'm not too hopeful about it arriving!0 -
Thanks Loopy
Whereabouts are you? I am in Lancs where more snow is forecast for tomorrow and next week. I seriously doubt my order will arrive so I may have to go out today before it gets worse!

Can anyone tell me how to 'bank' voucher codes for future use ?
Thanks0 -
I think you bank codes by putting in an order and finalising it with the code in your basket, then you can go back in and amend the order/time/date.
Be slightly careful with substitutions on your bill, I've had two sets recently where they haven't charged me the lower price and I haven't noticed until after the delivery as I assumed that they had charged the lower price.
The first one was two pieces of meat where I've ordered the meat that was on offer at £4 per kilo and they had delivered me something at £9 per kilo - pack price was similar but I only got tiny bits of meat! I rang and they refunded me a reasonable amount. I then had something similar on my last order.
Just worth checking on the doorstep.Piglet

Does anyone know why Tesco don't accept Visa Electron online, yet they do in store? I'd love to shop with Tesco online (rather than Asda), as there are always money-off codes about & it is great that they now price-match substituted items, but I only have a Visa Electron card

Unless they have changed back again, Tesco started to do like Asda does and not charge any more for your substitutes but, like Asda, if you are given a substitute that is not on any offers your original item was you will be charged full price for the subs. In this case maybe you can write in the 'notes' box something like 'only substitute for same brand on offer'.DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

We're in Southampton, it's the worse weather here for years. The kids are enjoying it though as pretty much all the schools were shut from Wednesday onwards!! I think we have more to come tomorrow, getting really fed up with it now, just want to get back to normal! Had to take the youngest to a party this afternoon which took me past a big Asda and the queues to get in were horrendous, everyone is panic buying :mad:0 -

I know that when Visa Electron were first introduced the customer had to be there in person, you couldn't use them over the phone or on the web etc
It might be that Tesco have never updated their system. If you find you are drinking too much give this number a call. 0845 769 75550
