Freezing stuff in the snow?

I've been keeping extra fridge stuff outside (HM jars of stock, buttermilk and soup) and none of it has actually frozen although it is on shelves in the side passage so not the absolute coldest location. I've also brought snow in in the washing up bowl to cool things before putting them in the freezer.
