Hi I was told on one of the other boards that I may be able to find about getting free legal advice. They seem to think that there is a scheme where you can get half an hour with a solicitor free. Don't know why they thought this was the place to ask but here I am anyway. Hope I haven't been given duff info. Thanks Jill

It would be worth a look through your yellow pages as some adverts will highlight a free consultation.

Hiya, I work for a solicitors firm. We offer some free legal advice. My advice would be to check out your local solicitors as they may be able to help with an initial meeting free or check out the Citizens advice centre or your local law centre.
Just give them a call, explain your situation and then they can let you know if they can help or not. Another place you could look is the the community legal advice website. They assess you for legal aid and if you qualify they can help and even do some initial free work i think. Or they can point you in the right direction.
Good luck and hope you get it sorted.

You asked why I need legal advice. My ex partner and I still have a joint bank account which he uses, I have my own account so I never see whats going on with "his". We split late last summer and I have mentioned to him about taking my name off the account but he said it's not hurting leave it for now, stupidly I did. He has just told me he can't manage his debts and is going for a Scottish deed trust ( he obviously lives in scotland while I live in england). As the bank accout is overdrawn by about £5000 I wonder if he can include this as my name is on it and if he can, what will happen to me, will i be given the oppertunity to take out a loan to pay it off or will I just have to pay it back as he would have. The bank account is with the halifax and I believe they charge interest daily on over drafts and I don't think I could afford to do this. I'm really not sure which way to turn. any help would be much appreciated. Sorry it's a bit long.0

what you probably need is someone who deals with divorce and separation issues as this can happen alot (I've seen it where I work). Give your local solicitors a ring and take it from there. I can't give you any specific advice on this as I'm not trained in that side of things.
Sorry I'm not much help but hope you get this sorted out.DFW Nerd No: 758  Proud to be dealing with my debts!:T Proud mum to Bon-Scott my amazing 10/10/10 baby0 -
Hi, check you House insurance policy, car insurance or any company healthcare scheme you may have, or if you pay a fee for you bank account check that policy document.
There will be a free 24 hr legal assist helpline listed. I'm covered with the car insurance, the house insurance and my firm give us Healthshield so I can access three different ones for free. Best to call late at night you'll get patched through to a duty solicitor. They will NOT act for you but they will tell you exactly what to do, what to say and how to handle the situation. Ans if you do need to see a brief they'll get you "case ready" so that will cut down your costs... Good luck..0
