Hi eastwick,
Well done for getting this far, that was the hard part. I know exactly what you are going through because we are in a similar position. We are 58 and 61, and we started our DMP almost 2 years ago, with a total debt of £74k.........and now we are around the £37k mark. If I said it had been hard going, I would be exaggerating. To be honest, from the minute we started, we had peace of mind.!! We have learned to budget, and save, something we never got around to doing prior to our DMP. We got into our debt getting children through University, and generally helping them out. We have kept this totally private from our family and friends and that's how we want to keep it. (Apart from the hundreds of people on this site), thank goodness. Without this site for information and to also know that you are not alone in this situation, I think I would have had a nervous breakdown.
Anything you want to know, just ask away.

I was with CCCS for two years but had to come off their dmp while I sorted out a few 'issues' with one of the Creditors ( CCCS DO NOT get involved with Unenforceability of Agreement issues ) and now self-manage my dmp with the same figures as the CCCS one.
Its not until a Creditor tries to give you grief and you can just say 'talk to CCCS' that you realise the true benefit of CCCS.
I will return to CCCS if needs be once the 'issue' hads been resolved, i'e written off:D stay wonky

We are with Payplan and they have been fine, and as pepe says CCCS are also good. I don't think that I would have had the bottle to do our own DMP then, but now I probably would. I am a lot tougher than I used to be.!!!

wouldn't have done it from the start, with 12 creditors and £64K of debt, but now the work has been done taking it over was relatively easy. Cap1 gave a bit of hassle but I just told them to take me to Court and the Judge would Order the same repayment as I am making! This happened once before and the Judge ordered the Creditor to pay the costs for wasting his time:rotfl::D stay wonky

Well done Pepe...... We have got 2 years to go, and it has crossed our minds to go it alone, but I read on one of the posts, that sometimes the creditors start to add interest again. Has this been your experience.
Sorry eastwick for hijacking your thread.!

thanks elsie 52, as you say our circumstances are very similar, like you our debts are down to doing our best to help our children, but ill health, job losses and the final straw loss of work due to the awful weather recently, brought a hefty dose of reality. The rest of our family dont know and we dont want to tell anyone who knows us, its all too embarrassing to be in such financial trouble at our age. Hopefully in a month or two we'll find peace of mind like you. At the moment we veer between frantic and more frantic. Thanks for taking the time to post your very reassuring messages0

Eastwick, this is a harrowing time for you while you are waiting for your creditors to respond to your letters. As far as telling anyone else is concerned, it is nobody else's business so don't feel obliged to explain anything - never apologise, never explain! You have recognised there is a problem and you are sorting it, end of story. You never know, some of your friends and family may be having financial issues of their own, there's a lot of it about. Why don't you come on this forum once a day, say for half an hour in the evening and update us with things, or just get a bit of moral support? One life - your life - live it!0

Honestly, it does get easier as time goes by, once you realise nobody is going to come round and break your legs! And any threats you do get, run them by CCCS or us lot, and we will put them into perspective for you!One life - your life - live it!0
