Where can we find a decent rate with adv credit?

Can anyone suggest how we can get a decent rate mortgage?

We have been turned down by Woolwich and Halifax because my husband has 3 defaults on his credit reference even though they were satisfied Sept/Oct 2007. His circumstances changed at the time and he agreed lower repayments on them all until he was given a lump sum and used it to settle with his creditors.

He's had no further debts since that time apart from our current mortgage which has always been paid on time. We pay our credit cards off in full every month.

We've had our offer accepted on our dream home but are having trouble finding a decent rate mortgage, even though we'd be putting 110K down on a 220K property.

It's so annoying, we can only afford this house because of the credit crunch, but because the banks are being so tight because of the credit crunch we're having trouble finding finance. Most of the banks seem to have a rule now of no defaults within 3 yrs ... we're only 9-10 months outside their rules on this and we can easily afford the repayments if we could get a sensible interest rate. Any ideas anyone?
