My understanding was that under a mistake or error claim (and general) you can go back 6 years - repayment supplements (effectively interest) will be added to earlier refunds0

Interesting information.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

6 years is for just PAYE, if PAYE + Self assessment which I have to do or SA on its own its 4 years.0 -
I am a new user and still a little confused because I cannot find the answer to my particular dilemma.
I am self employed and work on a freelance basis teaching workshops. I claim for business use on my personal car. I have kept a good record and know that i have done 3659 miles as part of my work. At the current rate of 40p a mile this works out at £1463.60.
When filling out my self-assessment form do i put down £1463.60 as an expense (alongside my other expenses)?
The tax relief business confuses me....is this amount my tax relief or is it subject to tax relief? I have seen in a few threads 20% tax relief which means that the amount goes down but am confused how i do this on my self assessment or if it even applies to me!
I don't earn a lot maybe £10000 a year.
Any advice is welcome.
Thank you.0 -

Here: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/incometax/how-to-get.htm Just below the P87 section.
6 Year limit for PAYE, 4 if you need to do a SA.

Hi, I'm new to this as well, I also use my own car for work as a field Support Worker (healthcare). I just sent in a P87 as I have kept records of my mileage and was just under the £2,500 limit for the form. My company supplies a FuelGenie card so I don't pay for fuel and oil but the wear and tear on my car has been substantial... my co-worker is interested now in using the P87 and asked me if it includes MOT, tax, and insurance , i.e. can you include those costs plus maintenance, etc.?
Anyone know the answer to this?
