Any of you guys know of an easy bu effective way to clean off rust?
We have a cast iron chimnea that we bought last year that has now gone really rusty.
Have lit it, to try to burn the rust off, but hasn't really worked.
Also need something to treat it or paint it with, once cleaned, so it won't happen again.

Not sure for a chimnea but I think metal polish gets rust off sinks. Might be worth a try?The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0

Both WD40 & 3 in 1 oil are good at removing then protecting from rust. Both are widely available in places such as Woolworths or diy type storesThe bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -

Does anyone know where to buy Berlin Black or stove blacking from though??When life throws you lemons...put them in a gin and tonic !!0 -
A proper hardware store. Though those are few and far between now. Pearson's in Chesham sells stove blacking though it's not likely you live in the area.0

Actually white vinegar can remove rust, not sure if its a real build up though, but it worked on a metal scraper I had.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Hi betterbargains,
I have a cast iron dog basket grate in my fireplace and I use Stovax Thermolac spray on it. I just take the grate outside and spray it every spring and it comes up like new. It costs around £7.00 for a 400ml can and is available in most local fireplace merchants.
