Hi,
I'm sick of the supermarket rubbish water filled meat, and so was thinking of getting meat from the butchers in the future - does anyone know of a reasonable one in Edinburgh?
Thanks!

Fantastic one down in Stockbridge. Think its George Bowers or something like that. Great stuff from there. Lots of people I know have started getting stuff on line from Donald Russell. If you have a freezer Ive heard its great and very reasonably priced. Link below.

I used to go to George Bowers in Great Junction Street.
The meat was wonderful - you do have to try to go early as there is usually a queue but it is cheaper than the supermarket and you can ask advice from the ladies behind the counterTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -

Thanks for all the help guys, not a member of costco unfortunately, but will give the others a go, will prob start with the one in great junction street as not too far from me.
In the true spirit of money saving though, I thought Id just check through the freezer, as although I didn't think we had any meat, I thought Id just make sure there wasn't a few sausages lurking. Anyway, discovered enough meat and fish in there for 24 meals for the whole household, so may be a few weeks until need the butcher!
Must keep a better eye on that!
Thanks again, really helpful0 -
We really only use Costco for our meat/chicken and other foods, and it is worthwhile. Usually go about every 6 weeks to stock up - their milk is only £3.20 for 4 x 4 pints! No Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:

George Bower on Raeburn Place in Stockbridge is excellent and the quality is far superior to any of the supermarkets.

The Sunnyside Farm stall at Edinburgh Farmers Market also has excellent beef (Dexter) and lamb/hoggett (Shetland) at reasonable prices - think they are there the 2nd, 4th and 5th Saturdays of each month from 10am to 2pm ish (go early for the best choice). Some of the best beef and lamb I have ever had - they do Gloucester Old Spot sausages and bacon too.
