Battery Recycling @Asda

When in my Asda the other day heard tannoy message saying that they have a recycling bin instore for used batteries.
I think this is an excellenct idea by them as it saves all those dead AA, AAA, C, D etc batteries getting buried in landfills, where the toxic metals can leach out and cause contamination!
So now i place all my old batteries in a old plastic container and when full!
Hope this tip helps others:rolleyes:

Hi
Try looking here:
http://www.batteryback.org/battery-collection.html
from my post code I found some local Morrisons stores do it aswell.0 -
Thanks save-a-lot for the batteryback web site link. They do point out that from 1st February 2010 any retailer selling over 32kg of batteries must by law provide free battery collection, so Asda and Morrisons aren't doing this as a goodwill gesture.
Batteryback are looking to set up more recycling points though and will offer council civic amenity sites, schools and other public buildings a free recycling service including a 'BatteryCan' collection canister. So helping to set this up in your area could definitely help recycling rates.0 -
Our local council are going to allow us to put used batteries in the green recycling box, is your council doing a similar thing or have plans to do so0

I read this yesterday on the teletext. It equates to one packet of batteries a day. So any shop selling that, will have to get a bin instore. I was just on the boots website, and here

I think this is a great idea.

Glad to see the UK is catching up. They had this rule when I lived in Germany in 1986 :eek:0
