Child 16 does csa stop

My ex has informed me she will not be receiving child benefit for my 16 yr old daughter from Feb.My daughter registered with connexions 4 months ago and only went to college for a few weeks before quitting,at the moment she just stays in bed all day doing nothing apart from the odd 5 hrs work a week.
Now that cb is stopping will i still have to pay child support?

Short and easy answer is no, no you won't.

No CB = No CSA payable

If CB is no longer in payment CSA stops providing you have no arrears.
    *SIGH*
    :D
  • If i dont have to pay why are they reducing my payments from Feb because my son is being taken off and i,ve overpayed since sept and not stopping it.

Call them for a written explanation and an account breakdown .

Well they shouldn't be...as DX says, providing you have no arrears (you are BANG up to date, right) then if your son is being taken off the claim and your daughter is err 'resting between jobs' and her Mum isn't eligible for CB then no CSA should be due from you.

Have you spoken to your case worker?
  • I've spoken to them a few times and today received confirmation in writing of what my new payments will be.I have no arrears.
Unless they're waiting until the child benefit stops in feb before informing me.

It could be that. For all they (and you) know, your daughter could suddenly get her @rse off the couch and start going to college in which case CSA would still be payable.

It was good of your PWC to let you know.:D Be on the ball, and as soon as the CB is no longer in payment then phone them up. They can check with the CB people.

If you have been overpaying then you will be entitled to a refund....whether you get it or not is a different matter...if they don't play fair then get your MP involved. They are quick enough to whip it off NRP's but not so quick to pay back any surplus:mad:
  • Thanks for the replies,my ex only told me because i asked her was she aware her payments were reducing,i'll have to wait till Feb then take it from there but my daughter has no intention of going back college.

Sit tight just now and wait till Feb would be my advice ;)
  • i would give them a call in Feb again and ask for a child benefit check to be completed - the case will then be closed using the date child benefit expires to calculate the closure date. when the case is closed a breakdown will be completed to establish if there are any arrears outstanding up to the closure date.
