Courier Driver..prospective employer changes salary at interview?

I have been doing some pt driving for a local Courier company using my own car on a temporary basis.
While I was there I learned that a FT vacancy was being advertised on the internet so enquired at the depot and the supervisor confirmed this to be correct.
I applied online as the closing date was 31/12/2009. The salary was advertised as £14500 pa for a 50 hr week, Mon-Fri 0730am - 1800.
I had a chat with the boss today and was told that the salary is £13300 pa for 50hrs a week, Mon-Fri 0600am - 1630. A van is supplied as it's an employed roll.
I may be reading too much into this but I do not think this is a good wage for the hours as it's not even minimum wage.
I have made a good impression in the last few weeks being reliable and a hard worker, yet I get the feeling that Iam being fobbed off from taking the job?
What do you think?

Yes that's correct..0 -
Dunno. I think your problem is that you may be too good doing what you do now and they would rather have someone off the street for the other role and keep you doing what you are doing.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. very good point!Always ask ACAS0 -
50 hours a week on a regular basis breaches the working time directive (avergae 48 hours)
You sure it's 50? as this seems to be illegal already...Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -

The impression your getting from what?
The impression im getting is its an unskilled job and they want to pay basic as they can.
Also I suspect the OP will be expected to be available 0600-1630 but will find that for a few hours a day he will be sitting around "unpaid" waiting for parcels etc to be ready/processed0
