DCA and unknown debt

Hiya
Hope someone can help, I recieved a letter last week from SRJ debt collection for a debt that I genuinely didn't know about, unpaid final bill from Vodafone.
I moved towards the end of my contract with them and genuinely thought I had changed my address with them, however typical that I can't find my bill from that time (when I moved I recorded the date that I rang each company on that months statement so I had proof of when I changed the address)
I am prepared to pay this debt in full, however if I can get a lower full and final settlement then I would prefer this obviously as I now have to pay out £100 that I hadn't budgeted for!!!
However, I read something that you can sometimes get the default wiped off your credit file if the company agrees, can I ask a DCA to do this or is it too late once it has been passed to them (ie only Vodafone can do this?) Also, if I get a lower F&F settlement then would this still be available to me?
I understand that they don't have to do this, but if I was to ask, how should I ask (ie in writing or over the phone?) Just that SRJ were awful when I spoke to them and explained it and basically told me I was lying!!!
Thanks guys, I appreciate any help!! xx

Send the prove it letter - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11570893&postcount=2
If they can prove the debt, then consider a F&F letter (see national debtline for templates) that includes that this would satisfy the debt in full, and remove defaults from your file, etc.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
For the default, it would depend on who put the default on your credit file - was it vodafone or the DCA? Only the company that put the default on can get it removed. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0
Total Owed: £2,270 (+6k) 11/08/20110 -
