I am in east Ayrshire and finding it difficult to keep the basket filled with logs for our living room fire. Its so cold we have the heating on but still need the fire lit in the main room at night.
We found logs the week before christmas in B&Q £5 a 10kg sack and it was buy one get one free, but since then they have had none.Homebase had some but they work out at more than double the price of B&Q,s,£7 per 10kg sack and no special multy buy offer either.
So where can I buy big sacks of logs to keep my lounge fire going please.
we have tried the pk of 12 solid logs too, reconstituted dense packed, they burn easily but they dont last very long.

How much can you store, look in the local paper for a man who will deliver by the trailer load.

Auldton Stoves in Dunlop, use the kiln dried ones, 11 for 10 at moment, £5.50 per bag.
Buying in bulk can differ as logs need to be seasoned to dry properly.

Do you have any sawmills/timber merchants near you who might sell you offcuts? There's one near me, friends use it as cheaper than Homebase/B&Q, but dunno cost. Check yellow pages - there are a few in Mauchline area - good luck.
Finally Debt Free (£8k to zero) yay! :j :j

  • I pay £250 for around 5 ton of hardwood delivered (5 miles away). Just a local farmer.
Is there any landfill sites near you? I've seen tractor trailer loads full of wood going to landfill before (just didnt have the bottle to wave them down and ask for it).

http://www.stovesonline.co.uk/services/wood-suppliers-full.asp Trawl through here, might be a supplier local to you.
