Only problem is it is £2100!

I think I need to find someone to copy it. Do you think that's possible?

Be careful what you say on public forums. Someone on another forum got busted by the owner of some stationary for openly saying she was copying it.
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

A uk based dressmaker probably could use it for inspiration to create your dress ;)

Unless the company has access to the original pattern and original fabrics It can't be an outright copy. It can, however be the design.
The issue is these companies life the images from designers websites and this is what they sell you.

"Typically, such websites will tell brides to post or e mail a photograph of their chosen dress and then it will be copied and posted back."

This is theft of design, copyright and intellectual property.

"If I encouraged someone to break the law, such as robbing a bank, and was caught, I would be punished."

I guess the sad thing is there are people who purchase all types of copy restricted items like DVD, music and now bridal gowns.

My main concerns are the websites that contain the designers images. I guess on this issue I am on the moral high ground because I know the efforts that go into to producing something. Of course, the argument is concerning the costs that the stores put onto the dresses.
First off, they have to buy the samples in. They then have the overheads of staff, retail premises and service to the customer. The Ambience of the store if you like. Many dresses like JP or Ian Stuart have the price tag because the designer has reached such a status, they deserve to be able to charge accordingly much as the client can say she has chosen to wear that particular gown and has the pleasure of saying it belongs to such and such designer.

    Being a dressmaker, whilst I do get many ladies send me images of their chosen "designer dress" via e mail, I always answer my emails and state;

I'm sure you can appreciate, for copyright reasons, I do not and will not produce replica dresses. That said, just like you, a lot of my clients ask me to make them something they have seen in a magazine. Whilst I will not copy it, I am able to produce something similar. I am pleased to say I have yet to have a disappointed customer because by not copying a dress, doesn't mean you will lose the vision of the original dress you have enquired about. What you do get is a gown unique to you. Apologies for needing to point this out, but trust you can appreciate the importance of advising you about this.

I just wanted to add that we are all in business of some sort. We all want to earn money. I could quite easily put a picture of a gown on my website that wasn't mine. If I did that I would be trying to pass it off as my own. This would worry me because I would be giving potential customers a false impression. The reason this would worry me further is because I would feel guilty and I would feel guilty because I know it is wrong. If it' wrong, it;s because it's illegal.
    Soap box moment over. x

ETA. This by no means I frown on anyone who choses to use such websites. Everyone is entitled to do as they please. It's just not for me. I wish you all well in whatever coarse you choose. xx
  • Thanks for all your comments.

I've actually found something very similar on Milly, so I could see if they can move the flowers onto the halterneck, thus making it more similar.

I'm thinking about getting a pattern and asking my gran to help me alter it - she was a dressmaker and I did fashion. I've not made a wedding dress before though, so maybe I am slightly optimistic!
