For dinner???

Options
Hi im staying away from home with work. While im away i get £26 allowance a day. I brought stuff with me from home "provided for by mum" for lunch crisps and cans of pop and am just buying a sandwich everday for £1.50 but in the evening i normally find somewhere to eat but this is quite expensive £10.
Down the road there is a sainsburys so am looking for some suggestions on a hearty meal that is cheap and can be made using just a kettle. I want to be able to maximise my profit on the days expenses

Can't you find a chippie and smuggle fish & chips, pie & chips, sausage & chips etc. back into your hotel room? Get a loaf of bread and a tub of spread -sorted!

Hope your company doesn't want to see receipts for the £26s!

Does the Sainsbury's do the Salad Bar, or the roasted on a spit Chicken, or an Indian/Chinese takeaway?

My MIL used to buy ham, marg and bread etc and keep the perishables in the hotel room fridge. Speaking of which, if you use any of the chocolate or cans, replace from Sainsburys rather than paying the hotel price

I may go and have a venture out and about and see if i can find a chippie. Luckily they do not want to see receipts so its a good chance for me to make a bit of extra cash. I dont touch the mini bar learnt that the hard way lol

Hi moneycrisis, I also work for a firm that gives you a £26 overnight allowance for courses. Do you also get allowances for 'over 5s' and 'over 10s'? If you know what I'm on about, we probably work for the same firm!

Whenever I've needed to stretch the allowance, there's usually been a Weatherspoons or similar nearby where you can get a decent pub meal for under a fiver, or there's chippies as someone else mentioned. Sometimes picnic living can be as expensive as a cheap pub meal.

look around the supermarket for ambient goods ie things that don't need fridge. I know keep stuff like this in for when DH is away o/n for his lunch the following day. I have things like John Wests tuna and noodle salad, crispbreads, crisps, cereal bars, fruit in plastic pot 'dole' it is called the one I have. you could also keep bag of fruit eg apples in your room.

picnic food like cold meats, pate, cheeses, with french bread, biscuits and sliced cucmber, tomato, onion, some pickles with a nice cheap bottle of wine.
    Get yourself a cool box.
This would probably last you a couple of nights

I would get a takeaway - most chinese/indian takeaways do a set meal for £5-6 tops. Smuggle in a picnic plate and cutlery and have a lovely meal in while watching TV. Get a mini bottle of wine from the supermarket and enjoy yourself!
