I'm the same as maman, worktop space is limited so I bought the wickes spice rack, i think mine is 5 tier but found the link for 4 tier below

Great as all my spices are neat without taking up space, I just filled this with spices I had and then gradually I bought a jar for the spice/herb I wanted and then as others have said buy the refills.0 -
That wickes rack looks good. I'll have to measure the cupboards. I do like the one from Argos, which I think you could keep in a cupboard.
Biggest problem I have is that the spices in my cupboard end up not being used, as I forget that I've got them, or forget to route through trying to find the ones I need0 -
I keep all my spices, decanted from their Asian supermarket bags into airtight plastic containers, in 2 600mm drawers in a cool part of my kitchen
they sit in a single layer & I write the name on the lid so I can get what I want without having to rummage around
I also write the name & date the original pack was opened on the side so I can keep an eye on how old they are
it's a nice neat system & keeps them in the dark too0 -
Or you could consider Lock & Lock boxes filled with your own choice of spices/herbs. Airtight to keep fresh and you can choose different size containers if you keep larger amounts of certain things. They would stack neatly in a cupboard or drawer.0

i noticed in lakeland last year they had stickers to stick on top of jars/tubs so herbs and spices could be kept in a drawer.
as i have limited drawer space i have tomato box in my kitchen cupboard (strong cardboard from supermarket) with all my herbs and spices in (in the dark), which i pull out and rummage through when i need spices. i agree with buying at the asian stores too, when go to 'big town' the asian market is on my list..nov grocery challenge, £.227.69/300, 9/25 nsd: , 7 Cmo, 10 egm.

I have a shallow pull out mesh drawer in one of my larder cupboards and keep everything in there, in the supermarket jars I bought them in, refilled as necessary. There's also miscellaneous stuff like stock cubes and vanilla pods in there, in jars which fit rather than jars that look pretty. Functional, cheap as it comes and the spices and such don't deteriorate in the light. I get used to the jars different things are in so it only takes seconds to find anything.
I've got a similar stash of baking type spices in a basket in the baking cupboard, together with baking powder, food colourings and miscellaneous cake decorating things.Val.0 -

i have a luxury - my oven is in the old chimney breast, so when we did the kitchen i had two little cupboards, about 3inches deep, made to fit the width of the breast walls - it made them the same depth as the regular cupboards and cooker, so no awkward space to sweep and the cupboards are just perfect for my spices!
we have the same - 2 shallow cupboards on the chimney breast walls - one full of spices, the other cake sprinkles!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

bit puzzled here - why spend £50 on a spice rack? my spices live in a little used cupboard (little used as in - I am not opening the door a hundred times a day to get tea bags etc). I buy a spice or herb i fancy in original jar - then refill with either same brand refills or another brand. a spice rack looks lovely admitted - but you would be amazed how quickly they lose potency in the light. so another tip - check the use by on the ones you buy from the supermarket and get the ones with furthest date. (generally found at back of rack if merchandiser doing their job properly).0

When we first moved into our house our utitlity room was next to the kitchen and we fitted a spice rack. One extension later and the kitchen has moved and the spice rack has remained empty
Was looking at the Wickes one thinking that was a good idea and realised - it's the same as the one in my utility room. I'm pretty sure it will fit into my cupboard and give me more space. For me result - no spend and a solution !
Many thanks Moneysavers !So little money - so much time :mad:0 -
I have the argos one (bought from littlewoods but looks exactly the same, I still have the holder sat upstairs, I have the jars on a glass shelf, didn't know I should be keeping them in the dark? will that matter even if they're out for a relatively short time, the jars are used very often fill most of them maybe every 2 weeks?
BTW I'm fairly sure I paid less than that at addition/littlewoods it was in their sale, got mine in about juneYes Your Dukeiness0
