Mobil

I wrote to Vodafone last week to cancel my mobile contract with them, I currently pay £23 per month and was going to change to PAYG to buy me some time to decide if I was going to get another contract or change to O2 like my DH has.
Anyhow last night I got a call from Vodafone offering me a new deal - the same call tariff but half price for 9 months - £11.50 plus a new phone on a 12 month contract. This seemed a good deal at the time and I said yes. I'll be getting 75minutes a month plus 50 texts. I rarely use anything more than this. It's just that now I am not so sure I have done the right thing. I was going to cancel it and I've been charmed and sweet talked into another contract. Oh well.

I would advise looking on ebay and seeing which mobiles are selling for the most and then get this one on your new contract and sell it on ebay - this would make a large dent in the cost of the contract. It's nice to have a new phone but the cash is better - I done this for the last 4 years and my original mobile is still in good condition and the money from the handset has reduced the cost considerably

check the paperwork when it comes to make sure its a 12 mnoth contract - they are tying people into 18mth ones now.
Also check the Vodafone website & then ring them to ask for the Internet tarriff - usually better value but they will only do this when your current contract is due to expire.

It's a difficult one isn't it? But you've still got a good deal out of it on contract. I think the question to ask yourself is how much do you use your mobile out of necessity and how much is convenience.

I changed from contract to PAYG in April - started with £1 free credit with the SIM and first top up of £10. Got an extra £1 credit for the 10% top-up deal. 2 months later I have £9.52 credit left!

My usage came from work calls whilst working out of the office (now I wait until I'm back in) and the others were convenience.

Tracking how you use your phone should help you to decide the way forward, after the 12 months are up of course!

Be careful...vodaphone a nighmate at selling things, being unclear & then you have to pay. Lets just say when my contract expires in Jan I will be going back to orange pay as you go!

Like Lynz says - there are definite rules about distance selling and cooling off periods that might be worth looking into if you do decide to cancel.

im always stunned when i hear about other folks tarrifs, if it's half price does that mean normally for £23 you get 75 mins and 50 text?? for a mere £7 more i get 750 text and 500 mins...

i know you say you don't use more than that, i on the other hand use all my calls and text, but that is a very small price gap for such a big difference in time/text

Thanks for your comments, one of the reasons I was going to change to PAYG was that I thought the current deal was rubbish - £23 for only 75 mins and 50 texts. Their new offer is much better. You are right Lynz, they assured me I have a 14 day cooling off period. The problem is I really do need a new phone, my one that I have had for a year (motorola) needs a new battery, the charge only lasts a day on standby. Selling it on ebay sounds a really good idea though, I think I'll check out the cost of a new battery first.

distance selling laws are 7 working days from getting the phone to return of any reason.. (14 day rule does not count see below)

as its only a new 12 month tie in they dont have to offer 14 day cooling off. If you upgraded in a store as soon as you walked out it would be well your tied in

the only way u can then return the handset if it was got in store.. would be if it got a fault within the first 28 days then it can be returned under sale of goods.

normaly they do not send you the new contract T&C out. BUT you should ask there retentions department (who did the deal) to email/fax letter whatever your deal was just incase things go **** up

On seeing the title of this thread 'MOBIL' it thought it was about Petrol Stations, whatever happened to those stations all I see now are BP, Shell or Texco??

02 seem to always do good deals for PAYG Mobiles, I hardly have a social life so I rarely use my mobile as much as I once did :-(
