Myself and OH tried patches lots of times, and both read Allen Carr's Easyway (off Ebay for 99p) and this worked. We are both 30 and smoked since we were 15 and have not smoked since 4th September, and the freedom I feel from reading the book is unbelievable, previously when using patches, I felt as though it was a hardship or I was being deprived cigarettes, but since reading the book I realised my life was controlled by them.
Good luck, and remember that my way or someone else's way may not be the right way for you to stop, but if you are determined, I am positive you will get there eventually!0 -
I gave up using patches, after several serious attempts. To me the most important step was to accept that I can never have 'just one' fag again. Even one drag would eventually start up my addiction again. I do think that you have to have the willpower and mental attitude in order to succeed but patches/medication etc can also be very helpful.0

The Allen Carr book worked for me, as Toothsmith said you have to want to give up and then its easy. The thing about the book for me was that it made me want to give up and helped me see how it could be done.
I didnt like the idea of NRT as in my view the nicotine leaves the body quite quickly, the harder part is sorting out what you are using smoking as a crutch for - eg a break from work, a few minutes breathing space.
Good luck OP.The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0
