  • thanks for that the cccs suggested a crisis loan. we tried the job centre for 1 hour this afternoon but they didnt answer the phone. i had one of these 4 years ago and there was a special number you had to call but cant remember it.
  • my hubby just asked his sister who said yes (not sure how much)anything right now would help. shes 30mins away by bus local to us and there is no public transport here or where she lives due to snow. neither of us has a car.

    From my link above.

or you can apply by calling: 0800 028 8822.

Get your claim in first thing Thursday and you may have the money by the afternoon.
  • Have you asked the DWP if you are eligible for a Crisis loan or Budgeting Loan?
I know it is getting more debt but under the circumstances it would mean you would have electricity, gas and food while you sort out the situation.
  • sorry lots of you answered at once! i had heard about the first right of appropriation. i will goto the bank again tommorrow and give this to them in writing anything is worth a try. i might ring the number they gave too. thanks for your help

I'm glad you have a different view on your finances and hope you can get them sorted. I'm suprised as well that you have an od and for that amount. We moved here from overseas 3 years ago and no credit built here at the time and I think we were limited to £100 od. Think that is all we have now but we have never bounced a check so I really don't think about it.

Question: if an od is set for an amount why would they let you go double that? Kind of defeats having an od limit? We have od protection in the states but you have to have good credit and it acts like a low interest credit card, if you hit the max, that's it!
  • they havent helped the bank with this situation getting out of hand with the od by allowing us to keep accessing more and more money and it getting worse as more and more charges added too.
i also feel we should have had the sense to realise this and not got into this situation and it was our own doing. at least if we sort this out with cccs and just spend only what we have
