I wanna buy knives and a knife block

I ordered a knife block (with some knives) from Lakeland but I just called and they said sorry, glitch with the website, it's out of stock. Bonus is they gave me free postage on the stuff that was in stock so that's good.

But I'm now short some knives... they were £35 at Lakeland, what else can I buy that's of reasonable quality and around this price? I don't really know much about knives but I'm starting to do a lot more cooking so I'd like a sharp set :D

EDIT: Or is it even worth getting a block? should I go for some nicer knives on their own? Is it OK to just keep good knives in the cutlery drawer? I don't know about these things!

Thanks!

Knives in cutlery drawer is a bad thing. Much better in a block or similar device for holding them.

Sometimes with a block you get knives you might never use.
Or you may use them all.
All my knives in a block get used regularly and sharpened ever time they are used, but then the cheapest on it's own is over £35, so I do like to look after them

EDIT - I take that back, just found it for £30
We all evolve - get on with it

I thought they'd probably be crap as they are sooooo cheap... I did see that in hot uk deals though lol!

I doubt they will be that bad, Viners supply quality products and have a good rep to maintain. Anyway, should find out soon, i bought some myself.

If you have one near to you, I would really recommend trying T.K. Maxx for them. They don't always have them in, but they often have Sabatier knives or similar, for a fraction of the normal selling price. I think I paid about £40 for mine instead of £200+.

I agree, TK Maxx usually have heaps. I've bought a Sabatier set from there for myself and again as a present for my folks.
  • Do you have a Home Sence (Sense) near you? They are part of TK Maxx, but only sell the homewares stuff (no clothes).

I recently bought a load of knives and a block for over half price. Well worth the trip if you have one near by.

Another vote for TK Maxx - my current lot are Stellar and my ex (a chef) approved the quality.
