Hiya I am about top buya house and instructed my solicitor about 6 weeks ago.

I ahve had the mortage sorted out and agremment in principle etc.
Every time i ask my solictor i always get the reply that it is very unlilely that we can exchange contacts in the first week of july.
I nevere get a straight answer why?
Could someoen just eductae me and tell me what a conveyancing solicitor does?
One of them is searches and second liase with mortage company and the sellers solicitor?
If someone can give me a lst i can then chase my own solicitor up.
Many thanks

i have sat with a solicitor many times to find this out myself and there can be a lot of complicated things to sort out. plus he is doing the same thing with anything up to 20 other people. other than searches etc which he has little control, there can be lots of points in deeds, leases which HAVE to be sorted out with the other party, which may be slow to answer. i myself have slagged off solicitors in the past, but not any more until i know the facts!0
