Bank charges - Data Protection Act - HELP !!!

Hi
I have just started on my long journey of claiming my bank charges back. I sent a letter on the 24 May 2006 asking for my bank statements for the last 5 years along with a cheque for £10.00. On the 6th of June natwest cashed the cheque.
I have not received my statements as yet so I rang the customer relations debt today and asked for an update. They don’t seem to have processed my request as yet. The lady on the phone asked me why I sent £10?? And who told me to do that.
Does anyone know if natwest can charge me more than £10 for my statements? Also since my letter was sent on the 24th May when do I start counting down the 40 days they have to comply to my request.
I would look on http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk but I cant get access to the web site from work.
Hope that all makes sense.

Its in the Data Protection Act itself as far as know. Although try not to speak to them verbally, you dont have any records of this for court unless you are recording your phone calls. So do all by letter if you can.
At the end of the day, if they have failed in the 40 days ( they dont have to accept your payment) then they have broken the law. time for you to take steps to force them to do so.
Write to them giving them a further 7 days, if this isnt done you will take them to court under failiures under the DPA. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Hi there, no they cannot charge you more than £10 under a DPA request. With regard to the 40 days this starts from when they receive your request.0
