Out of interest, what plan did you have for your mortgage before you became a student? Did something go wrong with that plan?
  • Well, I bought the house with my ex, got the mortgage together. He bogged off with someone else (whom we both worked with). I couldn't stomach working with them so i left my job and decided to become a midwife.

Selfishly my dad retired so his only income is (substantial) rent from various properties so the mortgage companies won't take that into account either (before he retired he'd agreed to be a guaranteur, or joint applicant).
