Hi

I'm not sure if the above title is accuarate, however my query deals with my parents home, I live with them at present and they are both of retirement age.

Their home is draughtly and cold, even when the boiler/fire is on, I think a main issue is the windows, there are wooden window frames that let a draught in.

Are my parents entitled to a grant to replace these windows?

No grants for windows. Only grants too improve your homes with local council. These are hard to get and depend on income, and need. My local council but a charge on your home when you come to sell to pay for this

Other grants are available from warmfront for heating but again depends on income, need

This is for England not sure if it apply to rest of UK

There are grants available for pensioners that help pay for double glazing etc.

You could try ringing the Energy Saving Trust for advice and you could fill in their on-line questionnaire to get ideas for improvements. There is a Warm Homes scheme in NI but not sure if that would would meet your needs.
We inquired about double glazing recently for a relative & were told no help was available - may have changed though. Do the Housing Executive still help pay for home improvements in private housing?
Maybe a bit of DIY would help - I remember years ago that my dad got a roll of sticky sponge strip & fitted it to the window & door openings to stop the draughts. You can probably get better stuff nowadays.

I know of one lady close to where I live who has received a grant for double glazing, I don't however know what criteria she met.
