Do you think that they have somewhere in the archives older version about how the baby boomer were robbed of 1.20 tn by the previous generation
I think every generation moans that the one or two before them had it easier and / or better than they do.
I'm going to be completely honest and say that I don't have the same hard worth ethic or detremination that my Dad had. I was born in to a middle class family and had a lot of stuff on a plate. I wasn't a lazy git or anything, I just probably knew that there was a saftey net in life: my parents. My Dad didn't have that luxury in life.0 -
Yes, my Dad's house rose in value through HPI. This didn't make him rich though, his general attittute to life, his work ethos and his sheer determination to do well in life got him where he is. If the rest of his generation are similar then they probably deserve to hold 80% of the wealth in this country. If you told him that he'd "made his money from the younger generation" he'd look at you gone out then probably tell you to work harder.
It wasn't about p[eople like your dad.
It was about those with 2 or more houses.0 -

I don't think the generation prior to the Baby Boomers had it easy, rationing, depression, war and mostly grotty rented property was mainly their lot, although I bet they didn't whinge like some today.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. I have news for you Graham, they can't take it with them
I wonder where all that dosh will end up
Of course thats if they have anything left of it when they die especially with all this talk of downsizing. Equity release schemes etc using property as a pension etc. Also the tax man will take fair chunk as well0 -

Worried your parents are going to squander all their money on themselves and not leave you a nice packet.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. Rather they did in reality to be honest. I keep telling them to spend their money but they are hell bent on just saving it and saving it and banging on about leaving it to us. What the point of making lots of money if you don't spend most of it on yourself. Their a bit old school though my parents.
I was just responding to you post in that I suspect a fair few wont be able to leave it to their kids especially those who do not have proper pension plans.0 -
