I would think you'd be entitled to child tax credits. Your child would need to be 16 or under (or up to 18 in full time non advanced education), and your joint income would have to be under 58K (her gross taxable income, plus your net profits, and any other taxable income e.g. dividends you may earn). If your child is under 1, your joint income could be up to around 66K. It might not be much you get at your income level, however every little helps, even if it's £20 every 4 weeks. If your income was much higher in the previous tax year (08/09), make sure you advise the tax credits helpline that your income will be less this year (although bear in mind if you earn more than you think, you will need to pay that back over usually a 12th month period (interest free)). The helpline number is 0800 300 3900 and it's open 8am to 8pm 7 days a week if you feel like seeing if you're entitled. Oh I forgot to mention, between you and your OH, you'd have to be working 30 hours per week combined on average. And you can ultimately (once the claim is in payment) get the claim backdated up to 3 months before the date it's stamped as received in office..which might be a nice little lump sum.
