Free PC point 'n' click adventure games (+ program to run them on modern computers)

This site is the home website for ScummVM which can be used to run games such as the first two Monkey Island games, Broken Sword, Simon the Sorcerer, ect.

They also have Beneath a Steel Sky (which had its art done by Dave Gibbons who did the art for the original graphic-novel version of the Watchmen), Lure of the Temptress and Flight of the Amazon Queen for download (the full versions have been released as freeware by the developers).

Might be worth a look for someone with kids (or big kids) who like adventure games.
