Bit of a silly story. The storage referred to is presumably Rough in the North Sea. Gas is pumped in all winter and sucked out all summer, so there should be only about half the gas left at this time of year anyway.

However there are other source LNG plants store a lot of gas, in addition gas can be pumped in from Norway and Belgium. Also as the price of gas rises suppliers of electric will use other ways to generate electric.

Also interesting that the price of gas is still only 60p per therm.

This time last year it was 73p, driven by Russian issues with supply.

Keep living in a dream world. In a decade the UK will be a looong way down the list of countries who can afford to buy-in gas and LPG as supply tightens more and stocks are hoovered up by China etc.

Get ready for the rationing and the lights going out.

    There is an element of truth in this. You see once upon a time we had a fully integrated gas industry called the British Gas Corporation..not to be confused with the present British Gas. They did almost everything to do with gas and did it very well. The tories "fixed" all our moaning minnie complaints by privatising it (tell Sid) which has led to fragmentation in much the same as the railwasy,where different bits belong to different companies. So then we have the farce of different people;
    a)selling gas
    b)transporting gas
    c)hiring out gas meters
    etc etc

In addition,we shut down loads of coal mines and shovelled millions of cubic feet of our precious North Sea gas reserves into power stations which has led to premature depletion.

We now import loads of gas via subsea pipelines and via liquified tanker to Milford haven from places like Algeria.

We are on the end of those pipelines and ultimately they can be affected by the squabbles such as those we have between Gazprom and the Baltic states

Energy, like water,is an essential service and the utilities should be operated by single companies with engineering excellence and expertise, run by the government, fully integrated, for the service and good of the populace.

Storage? well we have the Rough field ,some LNG storage and a few old gas holders. Gas holders are being demolished all over the country to sell the land on which they stand for profit.

Its a joke..but what to i care..ive got my thermal vest on.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Maybe thet should close the armed forces down as well, it seems to have a similar Raison d'être to one you described icon7.gif

The armed forces are an insurance policy. The UK coal industry was a loss making business that was having to be highly subsidised by the Goverment to ship coal overseas.

Doesnt equate I am afraid. The subsequent lack of investment in coal mining communities was the shocking mistake Maggie made, not closing the pits.

When we do buy, a coal/wood fire is essential, prefferably with a changeover valve to heat the radiator and water systems. Living in these parts usually means oil fired CH, which is going to get expensive in the mid-term. I do work from time to time for a local elderly farmer, including a little amateur forestry. A decent supply of wood is nothing to sniff at!

Or who saved state funds by closing down an uneconomic sector of the economy, with dangerous working conditions and that was already heavily subsidised by the state?

Would that be true if you factored in the lost TAX lost NI and unemployment benefit paid.

The Govt are getting very chummy with the UAE and Quatar, looking at exporting LPG that otherwise would get burned off in stacks. I believe the new LPG plant is either under construction or in service right now.

Yes it would, but as I argue, Maggies biggest mistake wasnt closing the pits. It was not giving decent, hard working people another option once they had been sacked.

I think the unions have a lot to answer for too, as all they achieved was hardened resolve from the government. Childish I know, when you are !!!!!!ing with peoples lives.

When calculating if a pit was profitable those cost were not taken into account.
