Bankruptcy discharge

Hello,
I went Bankrupt on 9th Januray 2008, i was told i would receive automatic discharge after 12 months. That time is now approaching. What actually happens?
Do i just receive a letter saying i am now discharged and if so when will i get this?
Is there anything i can do once i'm discharged that i couldnt do before? I.E can i now open a different bank account? I currently have a savings account and a basic bank account with the Co Op.
How do i rebuild my credit file, i know this will take years, but where do i begin. E.G i still have a contract phone. Which i have never paid late.
I look forward to hearing some advice.
Thanks

You probably won't receive any notification but check the insolvency register here
http://www.insolvency.gov.uk/eiir/
Now if you have any change of circumstances you no longer need to report these to the OR. You always could have opened other bank accounts however the banks may not let you. Keep reading this forum for up to date information on which banks will allow savings etc. You're lucky you already have a savings account with the Coop as they refuse a lot of people.
The next thing is to wait about 6-8 weeks and get your credit files from all 3 credit reference agencies and start the credit file cleaning up. There is a sticky on this on the front page of this forum.
Congratulations for Saturday!

When i was due my bankrupty discharge,i got a letter asking if any of my details had changed, they hadnt.
Then i got another letter a few weeks later telling me i had been discharged and that it had happened in court 3 days before i received the letter......Great!.
It took a further few months for my name to be removed off the bankrupty website.
All done and dusted, ive now been discharged for 6 months, havent applied for credit or anything and i dont want to,the only thing i did ask was if my Bank could give me a £100 overdraft to cover some direct debts i had coming out........got refused in an instant.0 -
thanks.
Five year plan, my savings account is with Citi bank, my basic account is with the co op.

Go to the front page of this forum and see the sticky called credit file clean up (or something like that). Let me know if you can't find it.

They let you have it because you only upgraded your service. Had you applied for a new phone contract you would have been declined. They don't credit check for upgrading. Thats why its important to keep up to date with them (if you want to keep the service) because you wouldn't get a contract anywhere else (or at least very unlikely).
