Confused about Jobseekers

Hi there,

I have a question about JSA,

My friend lives with her partner who has recently become unemployed. He hasn't paid any NI so would be looking at income-based JSA. They live as a couple and have a joint current account but all of the savings that they have are in my friends name who is still employed. Hence, he has no savings.

Would he still be entitled to JSA? Although they are living as a couple, the savings are all hers and nothing to do with him.

Thank you.

the best way for him to find out would be to try, but I dont think he would be as he is living with someone- they would be expected to financially support him from her salary- unless she has a significant amount of savings- i think it goes up to a certain amount before it counts- check on the direct.gov website

He won't be eligble to claim income based as the partner is working, their wages and saving will be taken into account. Why has he not paid any N.I.? was he self employed?

He won't be eligible for any means tested benefits with a partner working and savings.
