I was just wondering did anyone ever get the recipe for this right.
After having the M&S wensleydale and carrot chutney sandwich yesterday I thought I'd google for a recipe and this site came up top of the list:rotfl: .
Going to try one of the recipes on the previous page,so I'll report back.0 -

Where can I get glass jars from cheaply? I want to make this and another chutney I found in the forums, but I have no jam jars. Does anyone know if Ikea do them cheaply? Would be a 40ish mile round journey, they are the only people I can think of!KEEP CALM AND keep taking the tablets :cool2:0 -

Either ask on Freecycle or, if you have a sainsburys near you it would be cheaper to buy their basics curry sauce at 9p, just for the jar.0 -

I ask people at work to save them for me and also reuse my own, some of them have been used four or five times now and are still good, just check that there`s no rusty or chipped bits around the edge of the lids before you reuse them. I also have a couple of kilner jars that i`ve bought at Morrissons and they were only £1.25 each, i`ve yet to use these though.
As Hermum said its worth buying the cheapo curry sauce too, i`ve a few of those that have been used several times but you will have to wash them a few times to get the curry smell out especially the lids. The value curry sauce is nice too just like chip shop curry

Thankyou, I have a Sainsburys up the road, at 9p I doubt I could get them cheaper anywhere else
I've never made chutney before , do I really need a thick bottomed pan? I don't have one except the frying pan and I'm not sure that would be big enough. I don't want to spend very much money as that defeats the object!KEEP CALM AND keep taking the tablets :cool2:0 -
Do you have a pressure cooker?
I always use the base of mine for jams and chutneys.

I am trying to get prepared for Christmas, as carrots and onions are on offer at lidl was going to give one of these recipies a go.
Could I do it in slow cooker with lid propped open?
I don't have pressure cooker, I do have a big pot I do soup in, but I don't think it is thick bottomed.
Thanks.0 -
I've found that any deep pan will do, just as long as you keep stirring to stop the chutney sticking to the bottom. I always used my biggest pan until someone gave me a preserving pan. If you can get hold of one cheaply they're well worth it xfreecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0

It's about £2 a jar in most places, and I give it a whizz in the blender so it's nice and smooth.
It's very sweet stuff.0
