i've just started a job working for revenues and customs, i have a couple of defaults on my credit file from a few years ago, with me working as a civil servant does this give me more chance of getting a prime lending mortgage or not?
by the way were looking for around 115,000, i earn 14,631 and oh earns 13,826.

Based on your incomes i think there is a chance of lending around that amount, however, this may be helped if you could find at least a 5% deposit(10% would obviously be better).
I would certainly seek the advice of a whole of the market broker who should have access to a wide variety of lenders and know exaclty which lenders criteria you may fit into.0 -
but do companies look more favourable depending on what type of job you have and who you work for, or have i been mis-informed somewhere?0

I think occupations are considered by lenders but whether one occupation ranks higher than another is pure guess work. I have heard of lenders being more leniant if an individual has the potential to earn a lot more money in their occupation (i.e. graduates), but i have not heard anything to suggest that your occupation would carry enough weighting to overcome the negative effects of the a poor credit rating0

To be honest if you have a default - that is more likely to sway a lending decision rather than the fact you are a civil servant as opposed to a PA for exampleI am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. You should not receive better or worse treatment according to your employer in my view. If your future lenders try to check your employment history then you may find the delays in the HMRC a burdon. The last time I had dealings with my local tax office (250 miles away) they were two weeks behind opening the mail.
It is great that you have a job and can gain experience, in a department that has an ever growing influence on the lives of the people it serves.

how bad do defaults affect this, they are from a couple of years ago, both paid. one was for £57 and the other was for £612, what kind of companys would accept us?0

Some lenders will ignore these as long as there is a valid explanation for themI am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
