are the cards all out of interest free periods? xxx

Yes they are all out....my Virgin cards used to be £5 a month min payment each in the interest free period.........in my wisdom I paid nothing off them and now they are high rate cards with massive minimum payments - that's what has caused the problem to get worse really....I have no where to go.....I dread to think what I pay in interest and bank charges a month......and yes I know It's all my own fault but it's done now and I just have to get on with it........I am really grateful for all the hints and tips from everyone.

are your virgin ones interest free? can you call any of the companies to see if that can lower the interest rates? xxx

Do CC companies do that? Does it damage your credit rating?
  • do you have any Protective repayments insurance on them? xx

Tixy another poster on here (very wise!) suggested i do that as i got refused a CC last week sometime and got very stressed out about how i was going to make all the repayments. I havent done it but thats what was suggested - affecting the credit rating i have no idea.

i was shocked why i got declined as i had a good credit score but i think it was because i had too many credit accounts. xx

£60 for you - look for somewhere cheaper this seems astronomical to me.
Mine is significantly cheaper including the 50 mile round trip

I was shocked about being turned down by Halifax......I have had CC with them before and paid them off no defaults..........I will try giving them a call....and no I don't buy guarantees or protection insurances...in that way I am thrifty....LOL.

Do you know how I get the whole SOA onto here?

Just a small idea, but have a proper look through your cupboards and make a list of everything you have, including toiletries and cleaning products. I managed to go three months without having to buy anything except basic bleach because I had so much sitting in the cupboards under the sink.

The Old Style boards will help you with meal planning and house-hold spending - the people are lovely too.

I would also recommend a spending diary - note down everything you spend to see where the extras go.

Lastly, even if you are in contracts, call everyone and ask for better deals. Some will, some won't. Can't hurt to try, and lots of companies are getting used to people down-sizing their contracts.

    Best of luck x

I have made a few changes - my broadband is zero as I get it free as I work for BT.
Clothes and hair figure is a rough guess.....I don't buy clothes really only for my 13 yr old son and only what he needs.
1 of the cars is a company car, the other 2 old bangers.....we only pay tax insurance etc on 1
My Sky is on contract, cannot reduce for 2 months
Vet figure is a guess....got 3 dogs estimate covers boosters, worming etc
I really have no clue of true figure I spend on food/petrol/leisure etc they are estimates....i guess to much...I am disorganised.....I spend at least £5 a day at work on lunch (yes it is stopping)......hubby was doing the same, also we have too many takeaways......so you can see I am super disorganised.....all I know is I spend too much a month and have to borrow to pay my bills!!!!

From today, no money will be spent unless necessary and I will look for the cheapest option for everything. Thanks for all the tips so far, I have already looked a some of them and saved a few quid already today.

Watch this space.....oh and food tips really welcome.......I am a convenience food person and can no longer afford it.....I have an Aldi, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Iceland in walking distance so I can get the bargains from any of these without using my petrol guzzlers.

    Thanks

    Sarah

Thanks to everyone who has replied.

    I will be:

    Starting a spending diary
checking my cupboards etc for things I really don't need to buy yet toiletries etc
Searching loft/wardrobes etc for Amazon & ebay stuff
Get overtime at work if available
Ditch 1 of the mobile phones
Find some cheap recepies to feed us
    Take lunch to work
    Takeaways once a fortnight only
Phone CC companies to see If i can negotiate better rates as intro offers expired
Pay off Comet card first........although should I pay the two £500 overdrafts that now costs £30 a month each even if £1 overdrawn? Will get the calc out

    Sarah
