I was thinking about listing my novel (once finished) on Amazon via Kindle Direct Publishing - has anyone had any experience of this at all?0

LuckyLucy, I know in the Chicago area they have a lot of very bad traffic, heavy snow, outdoor concerts and strange restaurants, eg jungle theme (with sound effects LOL) perhaps you can work that into your story somehow
Good luck everyone with your stories.0 -
M&B have put out a free e-book (in conjunction with the New voices contest )with short articles and blogposts on what the editors looking for. You can download it from Fiona Harper or Liz Fielding's blogs in PDF (scroll down to a few days ago)
and in Kindle format from Amazon for free

Thanks for that. Very interesting. I've just sent one manuscript to an agent and written another novel which I was thinking of self-publishing at some point. This definitely makes sense if you can't get an agent. Great step by step guide but it does take patience and time and perhaps a little money but not much. However, not everyone can write books people want to read and as the article explained, there is an awful lot of junk out there which gives self-published novels a bad name. The point is though that there is hope for all those who aspire to have their work read by a wider audience.0 -

Thanks likestowrite and freeoffers,
I had a good read of this as I was thinking of doing the same. It seems you really do have to market yourself. I think investing a package that can do good artwork is absolutely critical.
I'm paying attention to the advice that getting as many readers as possible comes before making money. Think I might try composing some flash fiction freebies in romance to upload to smashwords.
Anyone tried it before? I mean the smashloads- not the flash fiction.0 -
Anglea that's a big help to me thanks for sharing

Er.. I meant smashwords of course. Not smashloads. Must have been feeling a bit violent.
