Getting married abroad?

Another one with a new year proposal here
Since I've been married before and OH has been married twice before, we're planning to slope off somewhere exotic and get married on a tropical beach, just the two of us, and then have a big party for friends and family when we're back. In true MSE fashion, we're aiming for 2012 to make the maximum use of turning Tesco clubcard points into Virgin holiday vouchers to pay for some of it!
Mauritius is top of our list at the moment. Has anyone here got hitched overseas and what do we need to be aware of/consider?

My first wedding took place abroad but that was back in 1994. At that time the Dominican Republic was up and coming and getting married abroad was not that popular. However i've seen many weddngs abroad whilst on holiday and would suggest that you check out how many weddings take place on the day as a starting point. In Mexico 5 years ago, we saw 3 weddings on the same afternoon in our hotel it was like a conveyor belt and the "special" day seemed to disappear as soon as the ceremony was over with the bride and groom were moved off for the next wedding to take place. Our wedding was the only one on the day and therefore we could take as long as we liked with photos on the beach etc but like I say that was 15 years ago so things have changed somewhat. We got married on beach - met some people on holiday who were our witnesses and then had a big party for family and friends when we returned. It was idylic and would recommend it but definately check out how many weddings they have in a day. There are only two things a child will share willingly - communicable diseases and their mother's real age0

I was thinking of Brazil myself as my mum has a property out there that will be ready in 4 years time.
