Manual sewing machine help!

My MIL has given me her old manual sewing machine, I'm fairly crafty but have never used a sewing machine before, my mam has an electric one, so she doesn't know either.

The only instructions i can find on-line are for electric machines. i cant even work out how to thread the thing. i don't live near MIL so cant really phone for instructions as i think that might confuse me more. she tried to show me how to use it before i took it but frankly i dont think she could remember either!!

Are there any websites or anything that might help me that you know of?!

Thanks in advance.
It only takes a second to say 'Thanks, you just saved me a few quid!'

If it's been standing idle for a number of years, it may be a good idea to have it overhauled/serviced and make sure that the shuttle mechanism etc is balanced properly.

It shouldn't cost you a lot to have this done and makes a great difference to how the machine runs. You should find that the service engineer can help you with how it works and how to thread the needle/shuttle.

If it's very old, you might find that it has a 'boat shuttle' and the service engineer may have some spares.

It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
