Auctions Lanarkshire/Glasgow

Options
With what appears to be the demise of the auction in Bothwell does anyone know of auctions in Glasgow or Lanarkshire? Have been to Smellie's in Hamilton but would like to know of others in the area.

Wilsons near Dalry have many different types of auctions.

  • Used to go to Great Western Auctions on a Saturday morning - the auctioneer has been on tv quite a bit, great atmosphere and really good banter. I haven't been for a few years though so don't know what it's like now!

Macrobertson's up at Kinbuck (just north of Dunblane, so a bit away from Lanarkshire) is very good. Their auctions are on Thursday evenings. One week general, the next week antiques.

Problem with Smellies is you don't get a good look at some of their stuff because they keep it underneath, especially the small stuff. McTears, if you fancy antiques is a better bet. Likewise Great Western Auctions.

Wilsons do a lot of police clearance stuff, - they do the clearances for Strathclyde police every quarter - and liquidation stocks. They are okay, but usually run in the daytime, on Saturdays. Can be good for cars and vans.

Coming towards Edinburgh's direction, Grosvenor's at Bo'ness is sometimes worth a look. They run on Monday Evenings at 6.30. You can download their catalogue - it's usually available late on Sunday night, and viewing is all day monday.

Also at Bo'ness is a much bigger auction - Mannings. They usually run on a Wednesday, at 11 am, every 4 to 6 weeks. It is possible to log onto their site so you can get email notifications when an auction is coming up.

There used to be one in Niddrie Road, Glasgow, but I haven't been for a few years so can't say if it's still there. Bit downmarket though.

Haven't bought at the Great Western, but if our experience is anything to go by, you can get a bargain. We sold some items and got terrible prices.
Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.
