First time buyer's here, pretty much clueless on the right path to take, unsure if credit rating is good or bad, what steps should we take on the scary mortgage path ?

    Read all these forums, do some research on the internet - banks / building societies (mortgage lenders) and estate agents sites often explain things and the processes.

    Look at sites like rightmove.co.uk to get a feel for properties and start to look round to see what you like and don't.

    Speak to a Idependant mortgage advisor (an IFA or specialises in mortgages) and go from there.

    Ypou can get reports of your credit file from experian and equifax for £2 each. Check out their websites.
