Possible reception venue not local?

Sorry couldnt think of a title!
Basically I am engaged but havnt started any real wedding planning as I am waiting till after the birth of my baby due in Feb. However I was having a light hearted chat with my Aunt and she suggested if I was to have wedding near her she would happily hold reception at her house.
No this is a lovely idea as my aunt lives in a very nice 5 bedroom house with a lvery large garden - her hallway is bigger than my living room! Problem is, I live in South London along with most of mine and my partner family and friends. My aunt (dads sister) her family and her parents live is Essex! Its about an hours drive from mine to hers and most of my family drive or have access to a car
But part of my thinks is it fair to expect so many of the guests to travel that far? Especially 'important' ones such as my parents and close friends?
It would be a lovely venue and would save money and I guess its not as far as if we were planning to get married abroad??
What do you think? Would an hours drive on the motorway put you off coming to wedding/reception?
xx

Wouldn't put me off at all - I think it's a reasonable distance especially if most guests have access to a car.0

Firstly it wouldn't put me off at all, secondly I hope it doesn't as almost everyone will need to travel to ours! We're in York and have family in Keighley, Sunderland and Derby!
It could be an option to look at putting on a minibus/coach or if this is beyond your budget getting info for guests on local hotels/B and B's or how much it would cost for people to share a minibus taxi etc? (if people want to have a drink they wouldn't be able to drive home).
You could then include the info with the invites or put it on your website if you're having one?
If you are - you could ask guests if they are willing to car share/offer lifts?"Normal is not something to aspire to - it is something to get away from" - Jodie Foster0 -
An hour away sounds fine to me, thats the average drive from my guests!:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0

We're a bit worried about travelling too. We live in Rutland. My family are from Leicester which is an hour away, but df's family are from Southampton, so 4 hours or so away! We're worried most of them won't come because of the distance.

I think most the people from Leicester will come, I don't think an hour is too far.Best Moneysaver...Starting my own Business!
