I'm going to start this again.
Ok my situation is as follows I have a greenhouse a third of an acre allotment and 6 chickens. I swap the stuff I grow and the eggs for other stuff such as milk, other veg, fruit and meat. I am in quite a unique position I know but I am going to try and live on 50p per person so that gives me £1 a day for me and lil one.
I will take into account the chicken food and seeds when calculating my food so some of my calculations might be a lot lower than some people expect but they will all be correct as best I can.
Todays menu is as follows:
HM bread £0.0587500
HM bread £0.0783333
£ butter £0.0059400
£ jelly £0.0400000
£ raisins £0.0396000
Grown carrots £0.0240000
Grown Green beans £0.0200000
Bartered potatoes £0.1544444
Bartered chicken £0.2785714
Bartered strawberries £0.0960591
£ whoopie cheese spread £0.0490000
£ whoopie orange juice £0.0427500
£ whoopie yogurt £0.1125000
total £1.00
Breakfast toast with butter, orange juice
Lunch Cheese spread on bread which is home made onion and herb bread, raisins and a bio yogurt
Dinner Roast chicken, roast potatoes, carrots, green beans
Pudding jelly with fresh strawberries in
Fruit and veg for the day
Orange juice = one
Carrots = one
Green beans = one
Strawberries = one
Raisins = one
Bread = quarter-there is a lot of onion in it.
I hope I have fully explained my menu and when I got round to making dinner I pulled some green beans out of the freezer too as there seemed to be a bit of confusion earlier as to weather you could eat two portions of the same veg in one day.
I have planted 12 tomato seeds in the greenhouse so I'm making a start on topping up my supplies.

I will be watching this thread with interest! I'd like to do the same thing but I know that I am just not organised enough. I have a reasonably healthy diet, but my problem is I just don't like vegetables really. I try and get as many in as I can, and I do like my fruit, but cabbage and green stuff is just something I don't like the taste of. I suppose I will just have to try and include it in soups and casseroles and such like.
Good luck though!:hello: :wave: please play nicely children !0 -
Best of luck
With the resources you have, you really shouldn't have too many problems achieving your challenge.
May I suggest that you use codes such as (G) for your garden produce, (B) for your bartered goods, (HM) for homemade goods - bread maybe? - (£) for anything you buy on sale and maybe (SM) for supermarket purchases? That way, it would make it easy reading for those who are either just supermarket shoppers, or those who make HM goods or those with garden resources to quickly scan through? Just friendly suggestions0 -
Thanks for the suggestion 3v3 anything to make life easier for others to read and I just realised how much I dont pay for and how much I bargain hunt lol:TDebts

Oh you make me so envious Nikki. I sooooo wish i could do this. I have 3 chickens but with 3 of us to feed i dont get any left overs. And although i grow as much as i can i dont have a massive garden. Plus i suffer fron quite bad arthritis. But i will be following you and trying to do as much as i realistically can.
Lots and lots of luck to you.Debt at 01/01/2010 £130 MBNA :T

Good luck with your challenge - i certain envy and aspire to the level of self sufficiency you have.
Sounds like a very healthy lifestyle not just from all the hm and hg goodies but the exercise growing them too. I bet your LO has a ball helping mum in the lotty - my son certainly did when I had mine.People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.
