For people on the internet we've started to send email's with an A4 attachment, the A4 attachment has photo's we've taken on it.
The reaction we've had has been that people actually like seeing exactly where we've been and what we've been doing. They don't seem to be just being polite as sometimes we see printout's on their noticeboards when we get back. In some places the available postcards aren't too good anyway!!
I suppose it depends on your friends/relatives as to if this would work.
To me it appears to save us money in true MSE fashion on buying postcards & stamps, it means we buy less postcards, stamps and they don't need transporting (Ok a few people use ink/paper if they print them). Also some people like them better.
What do you think? Have you tried it? Is it greener?
We do have to buy a few odd postcards still for people who for some reason we know would 'need' a real card.

It sounds like a good idea if the recipients like it. Personally, I would prefer to receive postcards but then I do collect them so am probably biased.0
