Do not refreeze- cod whoops

Hi all, me again
I'm making a fish pie and froze a packet of cod. I didn't notice until I got it out of the freezer to defrost so I could use it in my pie that on the underneath of the label (which you can't see unless you've opened the cod) it says that it has been previously frozen so not to refreeze it. Will this be a problem or should I bin it? I don't really want to...
I think I might let Sains know that it's a pretty silly place to put the warning!
TIA
Caroline

If I were you I would not use it, but then I am a bit of a worrier about things like that!
If it specifically says on the packet not to re-freeze, even if it is in an extremely stupid place, I would say it is a jolly good job you saw it and bin it. If you had your doubts you probably wouldn't enjoy eating it anyway!0 -
I have eaten Haddock that has been frozen and then thawed, and made fish pie. I've never had a problem. Just make sure you cook it thoroughly and that it's piping hot (This may make the fish a little less tender, but apart from that it should taste fine)0

I would have thought that this means you can't defrost it and then refreeze it raw. If you defrost it, cook it and then refreeze it, I think it would be fine. It isn't different from any other things we defrost.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

I think she means it had been frozen before it got to the shop, then she'd taken it home and frozen it again, without cooking it first. Which is a real no-no with fish. I'd personally bin it and pop a tin of tuna into the fish pie, or ham or something.Val.0

personally I'd say cook it and it'll be fine. Pretty much all the fish we get in supermarkes is frozen before it gets there (or nearly as pasked in ice) so that would suggest you can never then freeze any fish??!
As long as it's piping hot like budgeteer said it'll be ok!Clearing debt to save for a simple wedding.Starting 2016 With debt of £77000 -
I follow rules of
Fresh
Freeze once
Cook once
Refreeze once
Reheat once
As it seems it has been previously frozen before you bought it, then you have frozen it again I would be very cautious about using it. I wouldn't feed it to my children but I would probably eat it if it smells ok once cooked. One day I might be more organised...........

Well, I poached it and then put it in the fish pie and then put that in the oven. It smelled fine, it tasted fine and I've not been ill yet! Boyfriend has also had some and he's also fine, though he does have a cast-iron constitution... I'll let you know how it goes
**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D
