Too many holidays??? LOL NOOOO!
I don't quite get why some companies don't take both May bank holidays...I found that very disconcerting when I first started working here. And as for the July 12th and St.P's Day - I do wish everyone would take both of them and be happy about it.0 -

Because you get July 12th,That's what NTL's HR told us when we asked.0 -

Well no actually - 12th July is considered a normal working day by many many firms. Just as some firms will be business as usual on 17th March. One company I worked for over here decided that neither 12th July nor 17th March were to be regarded, therefore both were worked as normal. If you wanted either or both of those dates then you had to book it out of your annual holiday entitlement. Those who worked it got no extra pay nor did they get a day off in lieu. All perfectly legal.
And if you look at the list provided by madmam you will see that there are two designated holidays in May - there's nothing about them being replacement for 12th July, which is also on the list.
NTL HR's dept was fobbing you off....0
