Faulty bed from Argos

I purchased a wooden bed from Argos which came with a Silent Night mattress. This was October 2004. So it is now out of the standard 12 month guarantee. I did not take out any extended warranty via Argos.
The mattress is now lumpy and you can feel the springs. Hence I think it is faulty. The wooden frame is fine. I know it is 1yr 9 months since I bought it but I looked on the net and saw that Silent Night themselves give a 5 yr manufacturers guarantee on their products. There is no mention on the Argos site that the bed had a 5 yr guarantee though.
Do I go back via Argos and try to claim that the manufacturer gives a 5 yr guarantee on their item and thus claim via the retailer (with whom my transaction was with) or do I need to contact Silent Night directly to claim? I still have my Argos receipt.
Thanks in advance.....

you will have to go to silentnight, first 12mths with retailer and the rest with manufacture unless the retailer is providing the ext warranty which they are not. However there is no harm asking argos to see if they can contact silentnight for you.
Silentnight offer a 5 year guarantee on their Beds & Mattresses.
In the unlikely event that a problem should arise due to either faulty material or poor workmanship, during the first year they promise to replace any part or all of the product that is defective completely free of charge.
During the second year, replacements will be free of charge, but will attract a contribution to the transport costs.
In subsequent years, there would be a charge levied for the replacement of the faulty item. The charges are based on a sliding scale, the older the item is, the more you would need to contribute towards the replacement, which would be calculated as follows;
2 - 3 years [40% of the current retail price]
3 - 4 years [60% of the current retail price]
4 - 5 years [80% of the current retail price]
In order to validate this guarantee, you would need to comply with the Warranty Conditions.
Under the law, the Contract of Sale exists between us the retailer and you the consumer.
Warranty Conditions;
The mattress must be turned regularly, as per the Care Instructions, thereby minimising the settlement of the cushioning layers. The exception is a No Turn Mattress, which will be clearly specified on the label.
We are unable to accept items that are either soiled or un-hygienic. Therefore, please ensure that you use a mattress protector/cover from the first day of use.
The guarantee is void if a fault results from misuse of the product. Examples of misuse would include;
- Breakage or damaging the mattress or base by whatever means
- Use without bed linen
- Subjecting the product to excessive wear and tear, e.g. jumping up and down on the bed.
- Using the mattress with a base for which it was not designed (e.g. an old sprung base)
- Rolling or bending the mattress.
- Overloading the drawers in the divan and causing distortion of the base
Wherever possible, any replacement will be made of identical material. However, if no longer available, Silentnight reserve the right to substitute appropriately with a similar material or one of higher quality.
Exceptions;
Products not covered by the 5 year guarantee such as Pine bed frames, Bedding products (Duvets, Pillows & Mattress Covers) and Headboards, are covered under a 12 month guarantee against faulty materials or workmanship. 0 -

Update - I emailed Silentnight with a scanned copy of my Argos receipt and they said if I paid £35 for delivery they will replace the mattress for me. I paid my £35 by card and my new mattress is being delivered next week. Excellent service from Silentnight - they did not even need to send anyone out to inspect the faulty one - they just took my word for it.0

What's interesting is when you placed the order Argos probably tried to flog you an extended warranty.0
