Holiday leave

My husband has been offered a job. It's temp and is not set hours each week but as and when needed (beggars can't be choosers!). How do they work out holiday leave. Don't want to ask in case they get funny. Have spoken with ACAS and they said something about it being 4 times the amount worked each week but were at a loss as to how some one in my husband's position works it out. He could work for a few hours a day or all day or all week or just one day in a week. It just depends. Does it accrue on an hourly basis? Is there a fools guide calculation?
Thanks for any advice.

I'm not an employment expert but found this on a CAB guide:
Where a worker works irregular hours, s/he has a right to leave that would allow her/him to be away from her/his place of work for the equivalent of her/his average working week. To calculate the average working week for a worker who works irregular hours, add up all the hours of work the worker has done over the past twelve weeks (or the number of weeks worked if less than twelve), and then divide by twelve (or the number of weeks worked if less than twelve) to get the average working hours.0 -
You do need to check with the agency as whilst ACAS/ CAB can tell you the legal min they can give you it wont tell you what it actually it. Most agencies will give you 1 hours holiday for every X hours you work. You also need to check when you can take them from, a lot of the agencies I worked for you couldnt take any holiday in the first 3 months. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
